BOSS LADY VIRID.jpg

Boss Lady Virid (known to many as Miss Chrissie) is the passionate owner and director of Limelight 8. With nearly two decades of teaching experience, she has made a significant impact by working with military children, developing and leading dance programs at youth centers through government contracts. She notably created the first military child competition team, which, against all odds, made it to Nationals and won first place. Dancing since the age of 3, Virid earned both a dance scholarship and an early high school graduate scholarship to college. Her academic journey includes an associate degree in applied science, a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, and she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in fine arts with a focus on film and television, specializing in directing and producing. Virid’s expertise has been showcased in various ways, including her role as an uncredited dance knowledge expert for an episode of MTV’s "Made." She is also a talented costume designer, with her designs sought after in the U.S., Australia, and Europe and has designed and sewn pageant dresses for a former Toddlers and Tiaras cast member. As a member of the National Dance Education Organization, Virid is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of dancers and creatives through her leadership at Limelight 8.

Chelydra

Instructor and Choreographer

Chelydra has been teaching folk dances of Northern Africa and the Middle East (including belly dance) from beginner through professional levels since 1985. She considers dance to be serious fun and carries that philosophy into her classes, frequently fusing middle eastern techniques with more conventional dance forms (including tap and pointe ballet). She has danced professionally since 1980 and was the director of the Caravan East Middle Eastern Dance Troupe from 1981-1998. She is the producer of the No-Frills series of instructional videos in middle eastern dance. In 2004 and 2005, she produced the Oriental Odyssey series of shows at the American Theater in Phoebus (Evolution of the Great American Belly Dance and Dances of the Romany Trail), featuring nationally-known artists from New York to California. In 2004 and 2006, two of her choreographies were selected for presentation in the Local Choreographer's Showcase sponsored by Old Dominion University. She is the studio "cover girl", having twice been the featured dancer on the cover of Zaghareet! magazine. Her extensive research and study of folk dances of the Middle East and Northern Africa provide a truly authentic flavor to classes.
